Some Michiganders probably couldn’t point out the Republic of Turkey on a map, but the country actually shares many similarities to the Great Lakes state.
Both economies, for example, rely on auto manufacturing, agriculture and tourism.
That’s why some 50 Michigan business, university and government leaders recently headed overseas to meet with their counterparts in Turkey to talk about ways they can increase bilateral trade, cultural and educational exchanges.
The four-day conference in Istanbul was co-hosted by Prima Civitas Foundation, a statewide economic development group based in East Lansing. The group led a garment industry trade mission to Turkey in February.
