Turkey may seem like an obscure nation for a budding relationship with Michigan, but Prima Civitas CEO Steve Webster thinks it all makes sense with a closer look at the numbers.
Michigan imports more goods from Turkey than any other state in the nation - $529 million in 2011, according to federal data. The country also is a key to building inroads economically in the Middle East.
Turkey’s also on the brink of cementing ties with Michigan more firmly than ever after a forum on higher education research starts in the Turkish capital of Istanbul beginning Sunday. Four memorandums of understanding will be signed this week during the forum. They include a range of partners, from Turkey’s Minister of Economy to the Turkish Exporters Assembly to the Istanbul Textile and Apparel Exporters Association.
